Db x Purple Mountain Observatory
Project role: Product designer and developer
When Db and PMO came together to create this collection, PMO had a vision for fishin’. It was going to be a capsule collection for people who fish. PMO contributed design and creative-ness from the apparel side and Db with me as the designer contributed from the packs side. I did a light re-design of the weigh lighter backpack to incorporate elements from this capsule collection and working with the fabrics and colors across all.
Then there was a brand new product to be designed which was a drybag, but a sling bag. This would be a chuck it all in-bag.
It was a really fun product to make because it was playing with the limits of function vs aesthetics. It was a classic paper mock-up project, that turned into something quite cool and unique. The product itself is draping around the body when you wear it and will adjust to its contents.
The fun challenge is making something extremely simple but also solving problems within that simplicity. In this case the length adjustment was a task that got solved in a two-for-one with the closure of the bag.
This project stretched even further to include a third collaborating partner, Amok. Cause a fisher-person needs a place to rest? So together with Amok I got to use their design, switch out fabrics and details, and play with branding.
